A private-equity firm, Cerberus Capital Management LP, in 2007 bought Chrysler from Daimler and promptly announced thousands of large job layoffs at various Chrysler manufacturing plants. Cerberus is noted for taking over companies and making changes so the companies become profitable again. It declared that some of the Chrysler and Dodge models would be dropped as one measure to put the company back on the profitable side.

Crossfire comes as a hatchback coupe and as a convertible with a power soft top and heated glass rear window. Both body styles offer base, Limited, and SRT6 models. All have a Mercedes V6. Base and Limited have 215 hp. SRT6 is supercharged for 330 hp. Base and Limited come with a 6-speed manual transmission. A 5-speed automatic with manual shift gate is standard on the SRT6.

If you are buying a used car, consider the fact that there might be problems with the car that won't show up immediately. If you have, say, $6000 to buy a car, consider buying a $4000 car and keeping the extra $2000 on hand to pay for repairs later on. It is better to think in terms of preventive maintenance when you are buying a used car. Check the car to see if you can invest some of that extra $2000 into replacing things that tend to wear, like tires, brakes, and ball joints. A good set of tires can increase your mileage and give you a better drive and probably a safer drive!
