Kia was founded in 1944, and is South Korea's oldest car company. The name "Kia" roughly translates as "Arising from Asia" in Korean and Chinese characters. In 1992, Kia Motors America was incorporated in the United States. Kia was later acquired in 1998 by the Hyundai Motor Company when South Korea was having a financial crises. Due to the success that came to Kia after Hyundai took over, Kia sales have improved dramatically. Kia Motors Corporation is one of the fastest growing car companies in the world.

"Last year, in 2001, the Kia Spectra was a hatchback version of the Kia Sephia, a 4-door compact sedan significant for being Kia's first model sold in the U.S. under its own nameplate, dating back to 1993. This year the Sephia name is gone, absorbed into a lineup bearing the Spectra name."

The way one drives can have a bearing on saving gasoline. Fast driving, fast acceleration, and constant braking all use up more gasoline than normal. It is estimated that for every mile you drive over 60 mph costs you an extra ten cents a gallon. Avoid long periods of idling when you can. It is better to turn off your car and then start it up again if you know you are not going to be moving for at least another minute.
